Step-by-Step Instructions for Smoked Cajun Cheese Burgers
- In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 pound of ground beef with 2 tablespoons of Cajun seasoning, 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, 1 teaspoon of onion powder, and a generous pinch of salt and pepper. Mix until just combined and form into 4 patties.
- Preheat your grill or skillet over medium-high heat (about 400°F). Add oil or butter if using a skillet.
- Carefully place the patties onto the hot surface. Cook for 4-5 minutes without pressing down, then flip and cook for another 3-4 minutes until achieving an internal temperature of 160°F.
- Top each patty with a slice of smoked cheese during the last minute of cooking, covering to melt the cheese.
- Butter the insides of the buns and toast them on the grill or skillet for 1-2 minutes.
- To assemble, spread sauce on the bottom bun, add the patty, and layer with toppings. Finish with the top bun and serve immediately.

Notes
Avoid pressing down on patties while cooking to retain juiciness. Preheat properly for a good sear.
