  • 1 tbsp brown sugar alternatives include honey or maple syrup
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth or water vegetable broth for meatless option
For the Noodles and Veggies
  • 8 oz lo mein noodles spaghetti can work in a pinch
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil toasted for extra depth
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil or canola or peanut oil
  • 4 cloves garlic freshly minced is best
  • 1 cup bell peppers can swap with zucchini or broccoli
  • 1 cup shredded carrots or sliced green beans
  • 1 cup snap peas or snow peas green beans can substitute
  • 2 pcs green onions for garnish
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger optional
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch for marinating the chicken

Step-by-Step Instructions for Garlic Chicken Lo Mein
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine chicken with soy sauce, cornstarch, and sesame oil. Marinate for 5-10 minutes.
  2. Boil water and cook lo mein noodles according to package instructions (about 5-7 minutes). Drain and drizzle with sesame oil.
  3. Whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, brown sugar, and chicken broth in a small bowl for the sauce.
  4. Heat a wok or skillet over medium-high heat, add vegetable oil. Stir-fry the marinated chicken for 4-5 minutes until cooked through.
  5. Add minced garlic and ginger, stir-fry for 30 seconds. Toss in bell peppers, shredded carrots, and snap peas. Cook for 3-4 minutes.
  6. Return cooked chicken back to the pan, pour in the prepared sauce, stir, and allow to simmer for 1-2 minutes.
  7. Add lo mein noodles and sliced green onions, toss gently over medium heat until thoroughly combined.
