  • 0.5 cup bourbon replace with more apple juice for kids

  • 0.5 cup brown sugar or half honey for a twist
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes optional

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Begin by tossing the chopped chicken breasts in a bowl with cornstarch, salt, and pepper to coat thoroughly. Let it rest for a few minutes.
  2. Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken pieces in a single layer and brown for about 3 minutes on each side.
  3. Remove the chicken and in the same skillet, sauté minced garlic for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Add chicken broth, soy sauce, apple juice, ketchup, bourbon, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, ground ginger, onion powder, and crushed red pepper flakes. Combine and bring to a gentle boil.
  5. Return the burnt chicken to the skillet and let it simmer for about 10 minutes to finish cooking and thicken the sauce.
  6. Optional: Combine 1 tablespoon of cornstarch with cold water and add to the sauce during the final simmer for extra thickness.
  7. Serve hot over steamed rice or fresh vegetables.
