Ingredients
  

For the Vegetables
  • 4 cups Cauliflower Florets Lightly steamed; can use pre-chopped cauliflower.
  • 4 cups Broccoli Florets Lightly steamed; can use fresh or frozen.
For the Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons tbsp Butter Used for sautéing onions.
  • 1 Onion Diced.
  • 2 cloves Minced Garlic Provides pungency.
  • 8 oz Cream Cheese Softened.
  • 1 cup cup Heavy Whipping Cream Adds richness.
  • 1 cup cup Shredded Cheddar Cheese Main cheese component; can use other melting cheese.
For the Protein
  • 12 oz Sliced Smoked Sausage Adds protein and flavor.

Method
 

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Gather ingredients and prepare your workspace.
  2. In a skillet, cook the sliced smoked sausage for 5-7 minutes until browned. Remove and set aside.
  3. Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in the skillet; sauté diced onions for 4-5 minutes until soft.
  4. Add minced garlic and sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  5. Mix in 8 oz of softened cream cheese until melted; whisk in 1 cup of heavy whipping cream and simmer for 3-5 minutes until thickened.
  6. Remove from heat, stir in 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese until melted. Season with salt and pepper if desired.
  7. Combine steamed cauliflower, broccoli florets, and sautéed sausage in a mixing bowl; pour cheese sauce over and stir until well-coated.
  8. Transfer mixture to a greased 9x9 baking dish, spreading evenly.
  9. Bake for 15-20 minutes until bubbly and golden brown. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
