- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Gather ingredients and prepare your workspace.
- In a skillet, cook the sliced smoked sausage for 5-7 minutes until browned. Remove and set aside.
- Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in the skillet; sauté diced onions for 4-5 minutes until soft.
- Add minced garlic and sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Mix in 8 oz of softened cream cheese until melted; whisk in 1 cup of heavy whipping cream and simmer for 3-5 minutes until thickened.
- Remove from heat, stir in 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese until melted. Season with salt and pepper if desired.
- Combine steamed cauliflower, broccoli florets, and sautéed sausage in a mixing bowl; pour cheese sauce over and stir until well-coated.
- Transfer mixture to a greased 9x9 baking dish, spreading evenly.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes until bubbly and golden brown. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
