- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and spray a 9x13-inch baking dish with cooking spray.
- Whisk together the instant chocolate pudding mix with cold milk for about 2 minutes until thickened. Stir in vanilla extract if using.
- Pour the pudding mixture into the bottom of the greased baking dish, spreading it evenly.
- Dollop creamy peanut butter evenly across the surface of the pudding layer.
- Evenly sprinkle the chocolate cake mix over the peanut butter layer without stirring.
- Scatter chocolate chips over the top of the dry cake mix.
- Drizzle melted butter over the entire surface of the cake mix.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 35 to 40 minutes until edges are bubbling.
- Allow to cool for 10 to 15 minutes before serving.
