Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and prepare your baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef for 7-10 minutes until browned. Drain excess fat.
  3. Add chopped onion to the skillet and sauté for 3-4 minutes until tender. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  4. Peel and thinly slice potatoes to about 1/8-inch thick.
  5. Layer half of the potato slices in a greased baking dish, season with salt and pepper, then add the beef mixture, followed by remaining potatoes.
  6. Whisk together milk and melted butter; pour over the layered ingredients.
  7. Top with shredded cheese.
  8. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes, then uncover and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden.
  9. Check potatoes for tenderness; let the casserole rest for 10 minutes before serving.
