Step-by-Step Instructions for Hot Honey Fried Shrimp
  1. Prepare Dredging Station: Pour 1/2 cup of buttermilk into a shallow bowl. In another bowl, whisk together 1 cup of all-purpose flour, 1/4 cup of cornstarch, 1 teaspoon of kosher salt, 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper, and 1 teaspoon of garlic powder.
  2. Coat Shrimp: Pat dry the 1 lb shrimp, dip them in buttermilk, then coat in the flour mixture. Transfer to a wire rack.
  3. Heat Oil: In a Dutch oven, heat 2 cups of neutral frying oil to 350°F (175°C).
  4. Fry Shrimp: Add coated shrimp in batches, frying for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown.
  5. Prepare Glaze: Sauté 2 minced garlic cloves in a skillet, then add 1/2 cup of honey, 1 teaspoon of red chili flakes, and 1 tablespoon of hot sauce. Simmer until thickened.
