  • 1 pound Ground Beef can substitute with ground turkey or chicken
  • 1 tablespoon Olive Oil or any neutral oil
  • 1 medium Onion can use shallots or leeks
  • 2 cloves Garlic or 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 4 medium Potatoes or sweet potatoes for a sweeter twist
  • 1 cup Shredded Cheddar Cheese can substitute with Monterey Jack
  • 1/2 cup Grated Parmesan Cheese or Pecorino Romano
  • 1 tablespoon Dried Italian Seasoning or individual dried herbs
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika or cayenne pepper for heat
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Pepper
  • 1 cup Beef Broth or Water can use vegetable broth
  • 1/4 cup Milk optional, use non-dairy for vegan
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh Parsley optional for garnish

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Cook the ground beef until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat and set aside.
  3. Add chopped onions and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté for 3-4 minutes until soft and translucent.
  4. Combine the beef mixture with sautéed onions and garlic. Layer in the greased baking dish, top with sliced potatoes, seasoning evenly with salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, and paprika.
  5. Sprinkle cheddar and Parmesan cheeses over the potato layer. Pour beef broth around the edges and drizzle optional milk on top.
  6. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until potatoes are tender and cheese is bubbly.
  7. Let cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with chopped parsley.
