Ingredients

For the Patties
  • 2 cups finely chopped broccoli fresh or steamed
  • 1 cup shredded cheese cheddar recommended
  • 2 large eggs beaten well
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs use almond flour for gluten-free
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
Optional Add-Ins
  • 1 tablespoon herbs e.g., parsley or garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon spices e.g., onion powder

Equipment

  • skillet
  • Oven
  • Mixing bowl
  • Parchment paper

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Begin by steaming fresh broccoli until tender, about 5–7 minutes. Once cooked, let it cool slightly before finely chopping it into small pieces.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the chopped broccoli, shredded cheese, and two well-beaten eggs. Sprinkle in breadcrumbs along with a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix until thoroughly combined.
  3. Take a handful of the mixture and firmly press it into your hands to shape it into patties, about 1/2-inch thick.
  4. Decide whether you want to fry or bake your patties. For frying, heat a tablespoon of oil in a skillet over medium heat. If baking, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  5. If frying, carefully place the patties in the skillet, cooking for about 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown. For baking, arrange the patties on the baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  6. Once cooked, allow the patties to cool slightly. Serve them warm with your favorite dipping sauces, or as a side dish next to salads.
